Start with radio stations you already listen to. Familiarity with a station often makes outreach easier and more comfortable.
You are also welcome to contact stations you do not regularly listen to. If you do, simply adjust the script or letter to remove references to being a listener or fan of the station and note that you are reaching out on behalf of Overeaters Anonymous.
Visit the radio station’s website and look for one of the following:
Some stations clearly list PSA submission instructions. Others do not, and a phone call or email inquiry is appropriate.
Use the provided call script or letter to contact the station.
If the station has questions you are unable to answer, you may copy the PIPO/UWD Chair on follow-up emails, so they can assist with organizational or public information questions.
If the station is unable or unwilling to run the PSA on air, ask a follow-up question:
“If an on-air announcement isn’t possible, would you consider posting a community announcement about Overeaters Anonymous on your station’s website?”
If they are open to this:
Once you have this information, notify the Virtual Region, and content will be prepared to the station’s specifications.
Some stations already have a community announcements page. If you find one, please notify the region.
Every inquiry helps expand awareness, even if it does not result in a PSA.
