How to Listen to Readers or Interpreters
in Other Languages (Zoom Meetings)

IMPORTANT:

We are providing assistance for those with various languages differently this year.  Rather than having interpreters, you can ‘listen’ if there is a reader in your session in your language who will read from ‘zoom transcripts/captions.’

If there is no reader in your language, you can read in over 46 languages with ‘captions and/or transcriptions’ -for details click here:  https://oavirtualregion.org/using-zoom-captions-and-transcriptions/

How to Set up to listen in your language:

LISTENING (Audio Interpretation)

THE GLOBE ICON: Click the Interpretation (Globe) icon in the bottom toolbar (🌐 globe icon).

SELECT LANGUAGE: Select the language you speak. If a reader  is present (e.g., Spanish, French, or English) and it is not your language, you may have to use closed caption translations.

THE INTERPRETER’S ROLE: Note that the interpreter will primarily read the captions and translate only what the Zoom AI does not translate well.

MUTE ORIGINAL AUDIO: Select “Mute Original Audio” if you want to hear only the interpreter.

When readers or interpreters are available, members may listen in another language by enabling Zoom’s Language Interpretation feature. Once selected, you will hear the service members who are reading or interpreting in that language when they are speaking.

Many of our sessions are supported in French and Spanish, and additional readers in other languages will be added throughout the week.

TIPS IF YOU ARE GOING TO SPEAK:

SPEAK SLOWLY: Steady pacing helps both the readers and the AI.

DO NOT switch languages mid-sentence or the AI will stop working.
