Steps to Affiliation: Strengthening Your Meeting Through Connection

Affiliation with the Virtual Region’s intergroups, or service boards, is an opportunity to connect, grow, and deepen your meeting’s recovery efforts. Here’s how to begin:

  • Step 1: Need More Information? Invite a representative from the Virtual Region’s Intergroup Outreach Committee, or the Virtual Region Board, to speak with your meeting. Send your questions to the Intergroup Outreach committee  or the Virtual Region Chair.
  • Step 2: Decide on Your Meeting’s Path

    • Evaluate Your Needs:
    • Are there similar meetings (e.g., same language or literature) that your group can       join?
    • Would forming a new intergroup, or service board, better serve your focus? Only two meetings are required to form an intergroup Reach out to the Virtual Region Trustee Liaison to form a new intergroup or services and  board
  • Step 3: Research Existing Intergroups and Service Boards

    • Engage with Intergroups: service boards
    • Attend meetings and events.
    • Reach out to intergroup members, or chairs, for discussions about compatibility.
    • Ask questions and assess alignment with your meeting’s needs.

  • Step 4: Make an Informed Group Decision

    • Assign a subcommittee or member to research options and report back.
    • Invite presentations from multiple intergroups or service boards.
    • Consult with the Virtual Region for clarification and additional resources.
    • Group Conscience Meetings
    • Ensure all members are informed 
  • Step 5: Take Action and  Vote On:

    • Affiliating with an existing intergroup or service board.
    • Forming your own intergroup or specific-focus service board.
    • Post-Vote: Notifying the Virtual Region Chair for the next steps and support.
  • Step 6: Access Resources and Support

    • The Region Trustee Liaison, Chair, and Treasurer are available to guide you through the process.
    • Participate in Intergroup Renewal Workshops and access digital materials available on oa.org.
