COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

Sign up to serve on a Virtual Region committee here:
(If You are signing up for service at Assembly, you do not need to sign here)

The purpose is to carry the message of recovery and help the Virtual Region (VR) maintain internal consistency and congruity with OA Inc. Bylaws, Subpart B in all official VR documents and make changes as required adjusting to decisions made at VR Assemblies and the WSBC. If you have any questions or wish to help with this committee’s work, Please contact Committee Chair at Bylawschair@oavirtualregion.org

Purpose:

The purpose of the Virtual Region Convention Committee is to:

  1. Carry the message of OA recovery to newcomers and returnees around the globe through virtual platforms.
  2. Provide 12 steps within outreach to members of OA global community.
  3. Demonstrate the practice of OA principles and traditions.
  4. Raise funds through Conventions, to ensure Virtual Region stays financially sound and to aid in carrying the message.

The Data (Protection) Committee works with our privacy policies, personal data collection, processing, and protection plus anonymity protection. The Committee along with the Data Coordinator also work with directing cloud and google drive systems and administration.  Any legal experience in reviewing and proofing data documents would also be most helpful.

We currently have working groups addressing:

  1.  Constant Contact maintenance and e-blast (weekly electronic newsletter)
  2. Policies and Procedures: both internal to our committee and for the region as a whole.
  3. Data protection audit
  4. Updating our data protection procedures to have systems that are more automated and interact seamlessly with each other.

We have an urgent need for volunteers with cloud/google drive management skills.  We are looking for a team of experts who can help set up our data privacy database system. We also need a Zoom administrator.   This new ad hoc Committee needs service volunteers – especially those with IT experience and/or OA data protection experience as related to 12 Step service bodies. We can have social media sections of such a committee.   Also this committee will provide training and support for others in the Virtual Region who aren’t tech wizzes.

Statement of Purpose

Our mission is to help support the digital platforms of OA Virtual Region, working with the board, the committees and our intergroups to help facilitate the virtual channels to carry the message and to strengthen our fellowship.

OA Virtual Digital Committee Structure:

The Digital Committee is composed of the following four main groupings. Each of these working groups contain a variety of skilled service volunteers that are vital to the ongoing needs of OA Virtual Region. Many of the members in our committee are listed in more than one working group.

As projects come in, and specific areas are identified that will be needed to complete the task, members are requested to sign up on our service roster for that particular job unit. Members are welcomed to work on as many projects that they would like. The system we are working to develop encourages rotation of service and ensures that all our members are able to follow their passion in service, so that it will be a rewarding experience for all involved.

If you have a skill or would wish to learn a new skill on our digital team, we would welcome you to join us!

Statement of Purpose

Virtual Region Intergroup Outreach Committee {IGOR}: Our mission is to support intergroups to help the Virtual Region carry the message and strengthen the fellowship. We promote unity and cooperation among the Intergroups in VR.

The ways in which we accomplish our mission are to:

  1. Support the current member intergroups within Virtual Region
  2. Welcome and offer help to unaffiliated groups.
  3. Encourage the formation of new groups and help if they wish to affiliate with an IG or create their own.
  4. Support intergroups, intergroup growth, and intergroup involvement at a virtual regional level
  5. Help the region serve each Intergroup/establish what is needed
  6. Improve communication between the VR and Intergroups
  7. Encourage Intergroups {IGs} to send Representatives to Virtual Region {VR} Assemblies and Delegates to the WSBC.
  8. Be willing to bring help to the intergroup directly as needed, and other duties as assigned.
  9. Participate in revising widely used intergroup renewal manual to help train intergroup officers and provide assets for constructive service body inventories.

Purpose:

  1. To Carry the Message by supporting the translation and distribution of OA Conference-Approved literature to members beyond the English-speaking world.
  2. Provide more language translations for our service bodies, support more efficient means of distribution, utilizing new technologies to meet the demand of our global membership.
  3. Build on the live interpretation resources of the region, in supporting regional events, and in carrying the message to non-English language speakers.

Including Unity with Diversity (PIPO-UWD)

The Public Information/Professional Outreach/Unity With Diversity Committee (PIPO-UWD) exists to carry the message. PI focuses on reaching out to the still-suffering compulsive eater who may not know OA exists. On the PO side, we want to offer OA as a resource to professionals who may wish to refer patients/clients to OA if they deem it beneficial to them.

PIPO-UWD is also responsible for the planning of three Newcomer Open Houses each year. They usually take place around January, May and September, baring conflicts, and are approximately 12 hours on a Saturday and 4 hours on a Sunday. Affiliated IG meetings are invited to participate (to plan and hold a meeting).

We take a project-by-project approach. Members can work on a project near and dear to them, or become part of the committee, joining us with a variety of other projects.
